I can only assume the authors were just trying to discourage people from self-medicating with Ivermectin, which doesn't single Ivermectin out from any other scrip drug you should only take as directed.

Ivermectin has been successfully and safely administered to hundred of millions of people for decades. People can cause severe damage to themselves by taking too many panadol or vitamin C tablets, there's no accounting for stupid.
