Ivermectin is an inhibitor of the COVID-19 causative virus (SARS-CoV-2) in vitro, according to this study. As Professor Borody is a gastroenterologist he would be intimately aware of treatments for parasitical infection, and this seems a very safe drug (except for pregnant women) if used with the proper protocols.
(By the way, Professor Borody is also trying to grow his business Centre for Digestive Diseases (CDD), which employs about 60 people, and has embarked on a an aggressive media campaign in conjunction with NewsCorp. Nothing wrong with that if he's right about this, but simply note that commercial interest and self-promotion.)
At first glance, I think he may have an argument for home use as a preventive treatment by high risk individuals, or by those who test positive to minimise need for hospitalisation at the higher curative dose. I note that's happening in India, particularly in Utter Pradesh, and in Latin America. Will be interesting to know more.
