interestingly the romans did not have the concept of zero, bearing in mind the roman numbering system was about trade therefore zero wasnt a necessary concept. You will find varying accounts as to who invented zero as many cultures may claim it but smart money is on the indians in about 600AD. I doubt that IVZ would represent zero, IV could be construed to be 4 but Z was actually removed from the roman alphabet in about 300BC, apparently the emperor of the time thought it looked like the tongue of a corpse
