"No photo's of failed equipment to see what's happening. Is it water or rock causing the issue? These are 2 vast differences in failure."

Failure 1. A downhole mud motor. Turns the bit by harnessing the hydraulic power of the drilling mud being pumped down the string. The mud drives a rubber stator that is directly connected to the bot screwed on the end of the motor. Mud motors have a finite working life.....mainly due to the finite life of the stator which will eventually start falling apart. There's a 90% chance this is the root cause of the last motor failure on Mukuyu-1, a mode of failure that has absolutely nothing to do with the formation and since they're not running a synthetic based system...nothing to do with the mud either.

Failure 2: Loss of two nozzles from the bit. Again this is a mechanical failure that is totally unrelated to the formation or the mud system. Bits occasionally sh*t themselves. It could have started as a defect in the casting around the jets (impossible to spot pre-run).

"Plus there are no data recordings on what's down there.". What about the data from the logs they ran at 3618m? Lithlologically the section being penetrated by the sidetrack won't differ significantly from the section penetrated by the original bore.
