You can sell them in any order you want.

If you have a tax loss sitting on the books for previous years then use the gain from shares you’ve held for less than 12 months to offset this loss.

Then use the gain from the shares you have held for more than 12 months to claim the CGT discount and save some tax dollars.

If you have only sold shares that you have held for more than 12 months and you are carrying a tax loss from previous years, they have to be used to offset that loss.

I unfortunately had to point this out to my accountant. So don’t assume they all know what’s going on in the shares space. Many are just property focused.
