The previous USA sanctions were actually much more widespread - a sort of scattergun approach.
USA has been stung by the claim that they had "applied sanctions against poor little struggling Zimbabwe".
Now these sanctions seem to be very specific and focussed on individuals and some specific companies.
So the USA can now point directly to the Zimbabwe persons proven to be corrupt and murderous, and throw off the general "sanctions against Zimbabwe" spiel.
The targeted ZANU-PF thugs and oligarchs mentioned in the sanctions are spitting mad - this is a huge impediment to their international preening and money-laundering.
Unfortunately it may cause a backlash against USA and western companies.
Let us hope we (as an Australian company) do not get caught up in this backlash.
