think of it this way, when people need money - the first thing they are going to sell is speculative stocks. with concerns of war, inflation, rising interest rates etc. there's always a good chance that people will trigger sales, especially in the companies that are operating on 'credit'. if you want security, you need to rethink your investment strategy
