(Melbourne, Australia) — Brown Coal Innovation Australia (BCIA) has approved J.C. Steele & Sons Australia for membership. BCIA is a non-profit organization tasked with securing a sustainable future for Australia's world-class brown coal resources. Members work to advance brown coal innovations and emissions reduction research and development, while also serving as a focal point for programs and projects already underway.

Michael Haycock, Managing Director of Steele’s operations in Australia, was pleased to see the company earn recognition for its R&D with Australia’s brown coal reserves (Australia possesses 25% of the world’s known brown coal reserves, a significant but largely untapped natural resource). “We recently integrated our stiff extrusion technology with an Environmental Clean Technology pilot program that converts lignite to a Black Coal Equivalent (BCE),” Haycock noted. “Given the time required to commercialize low-emissions technology in the industry, the company’s experience with stiff extrusion positions us to add substantial value today.
