    a short technical note to add - 2 rock factors are critical in oil reservoirs

    porosity - the percentage of the rock that is 'not rock' and so contains fluid. Therefore the larger porosity the better.

    permeability - is a measure of how well these porous are connected. The higher the permeability, the higher the flow rate.

    In sandstones there is usually a direct relationship between porosity and permeability since the semi-sperical nature of the sand grains form a regular pattern. Think ball bearing in box.

    In limestones anything can happen - low porosity with high perm - high porosity with low perm and anything in between. This is because the rock is deposited in a wide variety of ways (reef to shell debris etc.). Also as water moves through the reservoir it can add or subtract porosity and perm (this is why an acid wash can help most wells).

    You could end up with a monster flow like NDO/KIK philipino reefs or the more modest flows seen so far at J-50. Although it appears the JPR field is much larger than the pinnacles reefs of NDO/KIK.
