In a small local sense the negative aspects started today.

The whole are is now closed in a 500mtr radius. This means no cars or motorcycles and only those that live in the area can go in and even then quite a walk. This means no taxis, no ojek (M/C taxi), no cleaners access with equipment, no paper delivery etc. All these people live on meagre incomes and this will hurt them short term.

Drivers taht already have their motor cycles parked in the area won't be able to get them out and possibly for up to a week. This means no normal means of transport for them as the cars are not allowed to be taken home. This will add significantly to their expenses as they rely heavily on their motorcycles and not just for work.

All the bars and restaurants in the area (and outside in some places) will be abandoned by the expats so no tips or extra work for the staff.

Thsi is just a small taste of what is to come. The tourism industry will die again and expats will think twice before coming here for a while.

This will hurt the country in no small way on many levels. Could not have happened at a worst time for the Indonesians.

As you say, dragged down again by scum.
