IMO there are a few reasons, the main reason is BRL have other mining assets 100% owned on the west coast and should BRL want to develop them it would directly compete with BT mining for the very limited infrastructure available, port space, rail and human resources.
Right now BRL's BT mining interest is BRL's only export in production interests so good for BT mining, therefore Talleys, to have BRL's full focus on this.
Remember it is BRL that have all the coal mining experience including all the relationships.
Part of this relationship is purchasing coal to mix with their coking coal to meet the customers demands.
I suspect in the boardroom of BT mining there would be a dozen reasons Talleys are using, including a major upgrade to the bucket line which is many decades old and many km long.
BRL are excellent at the operational side of coal mining
