Our Managing Director, Richard Caldwell, answers your questions sent during the month of December 2016.

    • Can Dyesol expect even more money from the Australian Government?
Dyesol never expects any additional funding from the government and considers that the Australian Government R&D Tax Rebate Scheme as reasonably generous and effective. However, there are additional incentives for companies that the Government considers worthy of special attention, especially if the technology is novel and likely to promote new jobs and revenue, particularly from exports. The Department of Industry is one such granting department and Dyesol was fortunate to recently receive A$2.5M as part of a Cooperative Research Centre-Project (CRC-P) grant along with its collaborators CSIRO and CSR Building Products. The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) also has a budget for similar grants, specifically for clean energy. Dyesol received $450,000 in 2016 from ARENA in what is known as a Measure, which it successfully completed. This should qualify Dyesol for consideration of more significant grants in the future and Dyesol currently has a grant application being reviewed for approval.

    • What are at present the most important customers and where do they come from (geographically)
Dyesol believes it is the world’s leader in the manufacture of specialty chemicals for use in PSC academic research. It has built an enviable reputation for quality and timely delivery. We specialize in perovskites, meso porous titania and performance enhancing additives. We also continue to service the DSC market. These chemicals are low quantity and high grade and typically restricted to non-commercial use because of IP issues, that only Dyesol and only a few other companies enjoy. In the last 2 years Dyesol has sold chemicals and equipment into approximately 61 countries. In terms of customers, there are very few research institutions that do not purchase Dyesol chemicals and we have over 600 active customers. Examples of current customers include KRICT, KAUST, Fraunhofer, EPFL, CSIRO, UCLA etc. Increasingly, we are selling chemicals and equipment into similarly established universities and institutions in India and China.

    • Dyesol has meanwhile a lot of collaborations. Is it possible to get an overview of all active collaborations?
Shortly, Dyesol will update its website and provide a comprehensive list of all corporate and academic collaborations. In the meantime, established partners currently include Australian National University (ANU), Flinders University, CSIRO, NTU, EPFL, University of Porto, York University, University of Manchester, Solliance and SPECIFIC.
