‘I would suppose that Biden is holding talks with Japanese, Philippine, Vietnam and Taiwan, NATO and UK, EU etc to draw up alliances.’
If they haven’t done this they are already behind the 8 ball.
My opinion is, that there is an unwritten alliance between Russia and China to push the boundaries in two key areas (was 3 - HK but that’s done and dusted) Crimea and Taiwan.
I’m thinking that they may be working long term using ‘push-take by increments. The incursions on both fronts are just testing the water. But they are becoming stronger and stronger by stealth.
I have posted my thoughts on these areas numerous times, the West has let the ball drop and needs to realise they have a new potential Cold War on their hands.
The trouble is, after the last Cold War, NATO has been decidedly drawn down in terms of military capability. Whilst potential protagonists have continued to bolster theirs. Now the balance is more balanced. Maybe even stronger in terms of China and Russia.
That is why we need alliances and economic threat to counter. The world (the wealthy and regional elements under threat) needs to club together to say no to any threat, and to pose a threat of their own by potential force or economic (in the first and main instance) force.
And those forces who have drawn down significantly will now be rueing those choices. UK, Europe and others mainly.
Putin won’t give up he’s ex KGB and an egomaniac and Xi is an old school communist bent on revenge for sleights incurred for hundreds of years. (Both very similar).
