The plant is 30 years old. I am sure that with new regulations and building specs, this problem could be prevented in the future. Nuclear power generates about 25% (don't quote me on that) of Japan's power, nuclear power can't and won't be stopped.
We have to remember this was one of the biggest quakes in modern times, followed by a tsunami, if this plant doesn't meltdown, it should be seen as a success in my eyes.
Fear rules.
Hopefully they get the powerlines set up and some of the cooling systems can be engaged.
