This article in the AFR completely changes my view on SYR futures. In summary the US, Netherlands and Japan are close to a comprehensive deal to restrict China’s access to technology. Biden wants to announce it prior to election to show Democrats are tough on China. The Japanese are fearful China will then block gallium and graphite. Not place tariffs but block! If China blocks graphite to the US, Japan and Europe the price of graphite will hit record highs instantly. While there is still a possibility it does not happen, in my view SYR has now become a bet that could pay off massively.
