"I agree that China's plans are a huge positive (although there are plenty of reasons to suggest they will fall far short of their stated targets - with the chances of commissioning 38 new reactors in the next 5 yeas about as likely as PEN commencing mining in March 2012). But, pray tell, how and why is China's plan to build these 38 new reactors by 2020 more important to the U market than Japan recommissioning most of its 48 idled rectors??"

Vintage, China adds 1 new 500MW coal fired power station to the grid every four days at present.
Anyone who knows what a feat of engineering planning and construction that takes would have little doubt they could add 38 new reactors in the next 7yrs if they so choose.

As I have stated prior, I believe this is a deliberate underestimation of their true aspirations.

Power supply is 69% via coal energy at present. 400,000 of their citizens die every year from respiratory diseases directly attributable to coal energy. There's a crisis in China that along with all the other lack of transparency we simply don't appreciate.
