Japan's Nippon Paper Industries is the largest buyer of Tasmanian woodchips. The company's president, Takahiko Miyoshi, has asked timber and logging group Gunns to resolve the row over logging in the state's forests. Nippon Paper has also written to Tasmania's Premier, Paul Lennon, on the issue. It has sought a peaceful settlement of the dispute. Nippon Paper says it does not want to be pulled into the debate. While Gunns exports to more than 25 countries, most of its exports are for Japan.
