"Wouldn't have Jarrad Hayne been better of just going to a brothel!". ....... but that would have meant that he is no better than a smelly old scumbag and that would have hurt his self-image.
These ppl are made to feel like heroes and demi-gods. ........ They can do anything and the lawyers will get them off. They can parade naked on the verandah of a pub, they can group rape girls and have no repercussions because they are national heroes.
They are given too much money and no responsibility and nothing to fill the empty hours - this last is critical because after all the hype and the glory of playing with the whole nation watching them, empty hours are a frustration rather than time to do meaningful things.
There is a severe arrogance that comes with being made a hero.
Not all Big League sports stars have these problems and there are many who are respectful ppl, but the team-building culture around RL especially is a force that destroys the idea that ordinary ppl are just there for the enjoyment of the Hero.
