Frog, 53 is the final cut mate. Basically they have 11 in the attacking starting side, 11 in the defence and then there is another lot called "special teams". So that leaves reserves who as u know go in and out of the game.
Hayne will play "special" teams. Special teams do the kick off return, punt return and are part of the conversions. Usually it's where the rookies start before in a sense, graduating to offence or defence as they mostly block for the pint returner or defend. Hayne being a punt returner is the only specialised position in special teams apart from the kickers. Sometimes a punt returner may play in the "offence" and in Hayne's case he wants to ultimately be a running back which is the bloke who just takes the short ball off the QB and runs into or through the wall. The little knock in hayne as a "running back" is that he runs very upright. He also is behind two other running backs in reggie bush and frank gore who are pretty bloody good.
They just said hayne on his 3 runs has averaged 28 yards which is bloody good. The commentators are having a fat over him. Hayne must be laughing thinking he makes 3 runs (thus far) and everyone thinks he is having a great game and the crowd loves him and he woukdnt gone close to starting to sweat.
The final 53 cut will be made after next weeks game, the final trial game. He will def make it as a punt returner.
