"Crown prosecutor Peter Davis SC said Patel misdiagnosed the cause of Mr Morris’ ongoing rectal bleeding, misjudged the risks, ignored his patient’s other underlying health problems and provided inadequate post-operative care."

The article makes it sound as though the was the patient very ill anyway. Someone high-up in Qld Health told me that Patel would operate on apparently hopeless cases much more willingly than other surgeons. He wasn't worried about meeting quotas of successful operations - that if he felt a patient stood a chance, he would give them that chance.

A very murky area. Too easy to criticise when it goes wrong - surgeon just doing his job if it goes right!
