They claim Jesus is just a mighty God but not the Almighty God, they create a second subordinate god by trying to avoid the deity of Christ.
They then fail to consistently apply their grammatical interpretation of John 1;1 when the same grammatical structure appears elsewhere in the scriptures. The purpose is not to be consistent but to veil the deity of Jesus

The Watch Tower tells the members of their society they must always interpret the bible through the lens of Watch Tower study materials and publications because it is unfathomable to the average lay person even dangerous.

    Watchtower, Feb. 15, 1981.

“We all need help to understand the Bible, and we cannot find the Scriptural guidance we need outside the ‘faithful and discreet slave’ organization,”

That is why the Watch Tower warned its members not to study just the Bible alone nor in small groups outside of Watch Tower guidance because they admit the Bible teaches a Triune God

    Watchtower, Aug. 15, 1981, p. 29.

“From time to time, there have arisen from among the ranks of Jehovah’s people those, who, like the original Satan, have adopted an independent, faultfinding attitude . . . They say that it is sufficient to read the Bible exclusively, either alone or in small groups at home. But, strangely, through such ‘Bible reading,’ they have reverted right back to the apostate doctrines that commentaries by Christendom’s clergy were teaching 100 years ago . . . ”

So they admit if you study the Bible exclusively without Watch Tower interference it will convert you into a Trinitarian.
