G8 Education's former chairwoman faces 25 years in jail

Jenny Hutson, the former chairwoman of childcare provider G8 Education, faces up to 25 years in jail after being charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice following an ASIC investigation of G8's takeover bid for Affinity Education Group in 2015.
It is the most serious charge being faced by the former Queensland Businesswoman of the Year. She was granted bail after appearing before the Brisbane Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
Huston, who had to lodge $200,000 surety to secure bail, is also charged with dishonest use of her position as a director, dishonestly failing to exercise her powers and discharge her duties as a director, authorising the giving of false or misleading information to an operator of a financial market. These charges carry a maximum sentence of five years.
She also faces 15 counts of giving false or misleading information to ASIC, which carries a maximum sentence of two years.
The case is due back before the court on June 10.
When news of the charges emerged last month, G8 boss Gary Carroll told CBD that “all the allegations are about her” and declined to comment further.
