    been trying to figure out what thread to ask this question on.

    i heard an abc presenter gloating that christmas is now a secular holiday,owing nothing to religion.

    i wonder,if it was really so bad,when,for one day a year the old timers had an obligation to go to be sober enough to go to church on christmas morning,to say hello and good wishes to everybody in their community,even if they didn't really like them,to say 'thanks' to god for everything,even if they didn't really believe that god could make good things happen for good people.

    now,that christmas morning obligation has been replaced with an exhausting and crippling obligation to go shopping for a month-to create the perfect and politically correct happy holiday.

    how does having a nervous breakdown and making christmas becoming the highest stress,most depressing time of the year beat everybody agreeing to get along with a bit of tradition that created vast social capital and a civil society?.
