I read a good book a couple of years back that might help us to reach some common ground, it accepts part of what you are saying, the Christianity was hijacked by the Roman empire and pagan ideas and diverted into something else but it also compares and contrasts what Jesus and the early Church taught with what we have today in our Church subculture.
I'm having trouble remembering the name of the book but will post it when (if) I do.
