Science, very simply put, is a collection of theories which fit the observable universe. All theories are subject to retraction, modification and extension to adapt to new knowledge and findings.
There is simply not enough fossil evidence to support any assumptions about our supposed evolution from any other animal. That is the end of it. We likely will never find any links beyond dispute because of the fragmentation, the incompleteness of fossil records. Personally, I much dislike the building of any being from just a few fragments. What does seem apparent is examination of DNA shows that all peoples arose from ancestors in Africa.
Religion.... a set of beliefs based upon no facts whatsoever. Because of that the opportunities for pointless argument are endless.
Frauds. Frauds pop up because of opportunities for wealth, fame, power. It's that simple. All those things are found in the church.
