There is a difference.
The Higgs has a theoretical frame work that can be confirmed or refuted. The existence of the Higgs would give confidence that the framework represents a step forward for science. A negative result would mean that the framework has known flaws that need to be addressed.
The existence of God had no such framework that can be confirmed or refuted by any experiment that I'm aware of. I don't know everything so would be more than happy to be introduced such a framework.
