Albanese will almost certainly be the ALP leader at this election, but not the one following. It becomes a test for the party rules that give rank and file members a vote if it becomes clear he should go but tries to hang on. How much damage does a party ballot that takes about a month do, and does it act as a shield for leaders past their use by date?
