A development like this is hard to imagine. It sounds more like a russian divide-and-conquer yabbering to drive a wedge between europe, the Middle East & the US.

What are the russians proposing - that they would provide military support as part of the deal? They would have to because I find it very hard to believe the US & UK would continue to provide military support to GCC states if they walk away from the USD.

The security ramifications would be huge. It would mean:
* No more weapons sales (and more importantly, support) from the US to GCC nations. And boy, are they loaded to the gills with US gear (F-16s, SAMS, AWACS, UAV recon, advanced ordnance, you name it theyve got it from the US & UK)
* No more UK defence deals & support from the UK, such as the Al Yamanah deal(Tornadoes, SAMS, UAV's).
