The Coalition has been using the example of the Obama administration to attack the Government over the design of its stimulus package, its commentary on the global recession and its refusal to consult the Opposition on economic policy.
The Coalition's new Treasury spokesman, Joe Hockey, has praised the Obama package for including 40 per cent tax cuts, and yesterday contrasted the dour warnings of the Rudd Government about the state of the global economy to the optimism of the US President.
"Our message at this moment needs to be one of hope and confidence," Mr Hockey told the Seven Network.
