Turnbull would be a better option as Opposition Leader thats for certain.
The media will have got the impression that Hockey and the coalition are not just double counting but "double dealing".
I actually think that Hockey has been forced into his embarrassing position by his Party who expect him to defend what is indefensible. The same with Malcolm Turnbull, they give him the job of attacking the NBN when apparently he knows the NBN is the right way to go.
