While I think Julia Gillard should be held to account for her broken election promises and her removal of Kevin Rudd as PM, the extent to which she has been vilified equates to a 21st Century version of burning witches.
To simultaneously excuse John Howard from all that he has to answer for in an attempt to air-brush history is a bridge too far for me.
The harsh reality of war in Iraq is that $Trillions have been wasted, hundreds of thousands killed, our armed forces made to fight an illegal war and with their families to eternally suffer the enduring ramifications of so doing.
But what was achieved? Iraq is not in a happier place, the Middle East is less stable than ever, the US and the UK are in really deep doggie debt-doo and religious conflict is approaching a crescendo!
Everyone who played a part in allowing John Howard to take Australia into that war must be subject to intense scrutiny and held fully to account.
Tony Abbott was a member of that Howard Govt., calls Howard his mentor and flags a return to that era. He needs to be pursued relentlessly about what all of that means for our future.
