Atticuscat; if electricity prices rise by 50% as you're suggesting, many normal Victorians will suffer considerable hardship and so too many businesses.
Victorians and their communities [such as Yackandandah] are however acting ahead of projected rocketing prices by joining together to develop community-based solar electricity storage to complement their own solar panel systems.
Others and including my wife and I; have undertaken makeovers of our homes. We've replaced old windows with double-glazed ones, properly installed pink batts, invested in more efficient appliances [ovens, air conditioners, television, etc] and re-configured systems such as ducted heating.
As for Victoria as a whole; in refusing to yet again rescue the very old coal, tired and filthy Hazelwood PS our state government has opted to invest in more efficient public transport systems and greener energy solutions while educating people about best practice energy usage.
