Yeah well I think Costello finds himself in a bit of a bind at the moment.
He would be thinking that his best chance of becoming PM would probably be by relying on Howard to win this election, and because of Howard's current slump in the polls, he will have assured Costello that he'll hand him the reins within say 18 months after the election if he were to win, to try to deter Costello from challenging now.
On the other hand, Costello might soon decide that he is in a nothing to lose situation, and challenge anyway, if he reasons that his fellow Liberals are also doubtful enough about Howard's ability to come back from here.
It will be an interesting couple of months ahead.
Rudd is showing signs of being a nervous frontrunner atm which is understandable. But one suspects that once Howard makes the inevitable resurgence, the public will then realise the implications of another term of this government and Rudd will then kick away again.
Hard to say......but be ready for plenty of fear........lol.
