Join Senator Conroy in a discussion about the fibreing of Australia
We are very fortunate that Senator Conroy has agreed to open the FttH Roundtable on Thursday 18 October. The Roundtable will be followed by a discussion with the Senator.
The media reports on fibre infrastructure developments in Australia have been corrupted by political bias and half-truths and this will be a unique opportunity to discuss the issues, as they really are, with the Senator.
A number of issues appear to have become aligned, placing Australia in the position of being able to leapfrog other developments around the world and build a first-class broadband infrastructure – as early as next year:
* Both sides of Parliament are committed to such an infrastructure.
* Labor’s $4.7 billion is an enormous incentive for private industry to work with Labor, should they be elected.
* There is also a good understanding that the ultimate goal is to provide FttH wherever that makes economic sense, with FttN, wireless and satellite in other areas providing an equivalent level of service.
* Telstra has indicated that it is very interested in the Labor proposal and by doing this it has committed itself to open networks, which can only be achieved through some form of structural separation.
The technology is no longer the issue. Everything now depends on the strategies we develop to get this massive project underway.
This will be the focus of the Roundtable, and we will have a rare opportunity to discuss the matter with Senator Conroy, the architect of Labor’s fibre plans.
I hope that you will be able to join us.
