No mate, they are a favorite of mine. Vanadium has four stable oxidation states which is the property leading to the liquid electrode flow battery.
I have tried to devise a flow battery with a metal ion with three stable states - so far no luck. My chemistry just not good enough.
BMW has a car with a vanadium battery.
All good for the future, but I still like Old King Coal.
