Legislation hampers ambitions for economic growth. Christian Keldsen, Director of the Greenland Business Association, welcomes the new foreign trade policy and hopes that the business community will be involved in the plans. However, the director cannot answer whether this is the big adventure we are facing. I think we must focus on keeping a strong fishery, getting a grip on our raw materials and minerals strategy and working tourism - and not least attracting the investments needed to grow tourism and the raw materials industry. He believes that different laws may discourage foreign investors. We have a tourism law in the pipeline, where it is expected that 51 percent of all activities must be owned locally. Of course, it would be beautiful if it were not for the fact that we are about to grow and need people from outside to come and invest. Another example the director brings up is the progress of the Kuannersuit project. Here, a ban on uranium mining put a spanner in the works of Energy Transitions Minerals' plans, which they had been working on for years It can be seen as a scare example for other investors, as it can happen in other sectors as well. "It sends an unfortunate signal and takes up a lot of space in the investment environment," he says, but stresses that GE does not take a stand on uranium extraction.
