The potentially large impact of mineral extraction on our economy is something we are very aware of. It is necessary to include and make use of the country's natural resources. If it is to succeed, we must start being more proactive.
Extraction of minerals and their use must be conducted in a way that maximizes the economic benefit for Greenland and its population. And we are all aware that this requires a significant attraction of investment. If we are therefore not to be mere spectators, it is necessary to ensure an increased participation of Greenlandic companies within the mineral sector.
For example, "rare earths" are exploited to a great extent in countries that are governed by autocracy, and I believe that as a democratic country we have an obligation to our partners to also give Greenland's contribution. It is not enough to just watch passively; we also need to act actively.
We must use rare earths, including other important materials, in a way that does not harm human health, nature and the environment. It is a sought after item. As a country, we have a co-responsibility to contribute with what we have and deliver our part. We and our global partners must begin to address the needs we have.
Let's hold on to our sleep, take responsibility and make use of our financial potential - after all, this is the fourth business pillar we are talking about.
