I think you are right, the money he has invested is a drop in the ocean to him, I don't suggest that he is purposely willing to lose money on an investment. He probably see's value but more so the investment gives him a common interest, a seat at the table at project level or should a "Seven event" or sale of Crux occur. A Call Option on the project upside.
