    Jonesville mine seeks permit

SUTTON — A Colorado company studying a possible coal mine in the Jonesville area is seeking an exploration permit.

The company, Ranger Alaska LLC of Golden, Colo., wants to drill more than 45 shallow boreholes and “up to seven medium to deep exploratory coreholes,” according to a statement from the Alaska Department of Natural Resources.

The land is owned by the state of Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, which has leased the mining rights to Ranger. That would be 2,200 feet of drilling for the shallow holes and 7,250 for the cores.

The exploration will probably required 1,760 feet of trail be built to access the site.

To review the pan, pick one up at DNR’s Division of Mining, Land and Water, 550 W. 7th Ave., Suite 920, Anchorage, 99501-3577 or download it from bit.ly/RF5yeD.
