Suffice to say the easiest way out would have been for KR to stay in DC and be Ambassador to the US so he is happy and send beazley back to lead the ALP- problem solved.

over here in the west we have no party politics in local govt, ho ho ha ha I hear you all say- reminds of a mate who was visiting a council in rural Qld and asked if any party politics on the council and the Mayor replied saying there are no party politics in our council, we are all Nationals...

so no real need for a Council Whip at Mossie Park, everyone knows the "blood" is shed in the briefing sessions before council and if needed in the front bar of the Commercial Hotel to resolve upon a position and then solidarity prevails at the council mtg when the punters are delighted by an elected body which is not always fighting and factional driven.

Only dispute I can recall in 7 years I have been doing the "numbes" for Mayor Tretch was that time there was a blue over whether to buy the 84 or 90 Grange for the reception area and I think we sorted it by buying a carton of both- see compromise is such a simple thing.
