Denben - Alan Joyce is an Australian citizen, as you presumably know. We don't know about you and don't care but lay off the xenophobic comments about our country.
Joyce was scheduled to be there for 90 minutes - they kept him for double that and he was extremely gracious around 10.30 in attempting to get them to finish by 10.50, which they said they will try to do. They then kept him until 11.20.
He said that he would be more than happy to accept further questioning on notice, and at the end they verballed him when he said he would be at their call.
As a non public office holder Joyce would never be forced to atend a senate enquiry. "In practice, the power to compel the attendance of witnesses and the production of documents is normally not used in the conduct of inquiries. Senate inquiries proceed on a voluntary basis." (senate website)
It would be easy to support your contention that he should attend as directed if the questioning was relevant, informed and not rambling fishing expeditions by the likes of Cameron. Keating never lowered himself to appear before Senate Enquiries, famously referring to them as unrepresentative swill. Fancy having to subject yourself to TWO Green senators with their inane questioning - Ludlum couldn't even take his hand away from his mouth.
