How is a cap raising so scary anyway?

Retail investors imo won't be able to participate in the next cap raising (if there is one), they've had their chance last time around (and ruined the share price for 12 months). So cheap shares are out of the question.

Or lets say its a rights issue at a discount, how do people expect to buy without holding shares??
