If there's one thing many in the community detest, is these modern day parents that think that their kids are above everyone else. It's not just about not-smacking your kids, it's really about not disciplining them at all. Smacking comes from an inability to dish out logical non-abusive punishment that will be effective every time. But it's also a joke that in this day and age of no smacking children that we have the worst juvenile behaviour ever recorded, such as at schools and out in the community. Look at what goes on when teenagers have out of control parties - selfish and total disrespect for everyone which is the direct result of their parents and schools teaching them to hate authority.
Kids respond well to clear and concise rules that must be backed up by 'both parents', the schools and the police. The minute we loosen the rope is the when they'll find the limits and beyond. And at the moment there appears to be no limits, hence their confusion and disrespect for law abiding citizens.
How many times have schools approached parents of badly behaving children, only to find that the parents to be even more vicious and toxic - that comes from disrespecting authority which is then bred into the once innocent children. You reap what you sow.
Now at the other extreme, this is how not to discipline children (unless it's that mongrel kid next to you in the restaurant shouting and kicking at his parents :)
