Here we go again. 'Physical voilence' is NOT the same as a smack! A smack is provided with an open hand, usually on the back of the legs or on the hand. And I would argue that there ARE situations where one would be merited, usually in a situation where a smack is a kinder consequence than the real consequence, such as hand on hot plate, or running into the road. That's not to say that parents need to smack their children all the time or in every situation. There ARE are other ways to discipline a child I agree, and the best way to raise good children is to 'set an example' by having good behaviour yourself. Children are great mimics.
