You're saying ban, boxing, wrestling,judo, karate, footy, cricket, baseball, brandy and other contact sports. You want all children to end up sissies so when the inevitable bully come along they all surrender.
I'm getting off topic here, but discipline, sports etc are all preparations for growing up.
I agree hitting a child in anger is assault. But to me, GENERALLY speaking, the ones with the least (self) discipline are the ones more inclined to react in anger.
