Yes, you are right, Oliveoyl. Sharon hasn't gotten around to stacking his courts as well as our own dear Prime Minister has. Sadly, the little victories of decent Israelis is always overwhelmed by the Sharonites.
It is so much easier to take a blinkered ignorant extremist right wing position than to bother to think, analyse and do the hard yards of the great leaders we sometimes glimpse.
l once told Yitzhak Rabin that his policy of putting jeeps, armed to the teeth into squalid refugee camps was a recipe for disaster. He said Israel needed to patrol the terrorist training grounds. I put the same question to then shadow defence Minister Moshe Arens who gave a non-sequiter answer but later as Defence Minister immediately put the Israeli patrols outside the camps. The Palestinian death rate fell from about 30 youths a month to one a month.
It is a real shame that there are not more intelligent right-wingers in Israel like Arens. Israel lacks intelligent leadership which is the most bizarre thing when you look at the vast numbers of truly gifted Israelis and non-Israeli Jews.
Then again, having Michael Danby as the only Jewish MHR (Melbourne Ports) says a lot about the subject of intelligent thoughtful Jews entering politics for a living when there are other things to do.
