The boats are confiscated and burned.
But seriously the only way I can see to slow down the arrivals now that Chrismas Island is full is to divert them to Naru or East Timor or New Guinea...anywhere that will take them and keep them in some form of detention.
I think it is becoming necessary to send a message that entry to Australia is going to be very difficult and only a few will ever get here this way. Although the 5,000 or so a year coming now is not a real problem we don't want this to keep growing or there really will be problems as there are millions of people in the third world wanting to move to improve their lives.
