So, Daver's argument seems to be that even if our last PM [but one] was guilty of massive fraud, it doesn't matter for 2 reasons:
. it happened a long time ago and
. she's no longer PM so it's history and there are no votes in it.
All I can say, as a former Prosecutor myself early in my career, that it's a good thing the Police and DPP take a more pragmatic view, otherwise it would be the case that if you avoided justice for a few years you're home and hosed.
To say it matters nought is plain wrong. If it turns out that Gillard is convicted [which is probable] and then jailed [which is likely] it will be an historic event as others have said here. Labor acolytes might not like it, but having a former PM convicted of a massive fraud would stain her Party forever and be fodder for the Coalition come an election. "Trust" would take on a whole new dimension - especially where the present lot were in denial and wanted it all to go away like Daver does. The ALP will be wounded badly.
