I tend to look at this stuff from a business point of view. Abbott was anti-business in so many ways - talking down the economy and trashing business and consumer confidence, driving out the car industry, stuffing up relations with trading nations, making ideological attacks on emerging renewable industries, political patronage for industry groups with the right ideological mindset, cutting investment in science and industry R&D, etc. The thing is, if this is a new system that the world will follow, then we need to get on board because it will create opportunities and be good for our economy. It might help to save the planet or it might not - I don't know. But doing something that will be good for business and might help the environment seems more practical than keeping on a path that may cause irreversible damage to the environment and will definitely lose massive industry opportunities for the economy.
