yellowcake has often written re the seriousness of farm debt... both here in Oz and worldwide. Undoubtedly banks will hesitate to lend if grain/livestock prices are too low. Yet world grain stockpiles are not impressive. Should finance not become available and worldwide cropping area planted experiences even a 20% reduction (and it could be more)... then surely world could soon face substantial food shortage/crisis? To replace grain stocks is essentially a 12 month plan/achievement. If food crisis hits in say December 2010 AFTER N.Hempisphere crops are sown... it will take 22-24 months before supplies (assuming decent seasons) can be replenished. 1st world farmers must know this and may be willing to sow large area this winter despite streeeetching their budget/finances to the max. I will be very interested to read in early July what acrerage has been planted for cereals this season here in Oz. Was hoping recent cyclone would have provided rain for Moree(and perhaps even Narrabri/Gunnedah) region in N.NSW.... but entered QLD way too far North.
